EAA Chap 1479
MARCH 2009 MEETING RECAP
Our March meeting was held at the Rosecrans Airport terminal building, featuring Bill Newton and the Robinson R-22 Helicopter he flew in for the meeting. Bill gave a very interesting talk about helicopters, his experiences and some of the differences between fixed and rotary winged flight. Just before sunset, we all got an up-close look at the aircraft and Bill explained it's components and controls. I am sure the highlight of the day was getting to see it start, hover and fly around the airfield as Bill demonstrated his skill at the controls.
As a bonus, we drew names from a hat and Bill gave rides to the first two picked! Thank you Bill!
While out on the flightline, we also got to take a close look at Dr. Smith's beautifully restored classic Piper.
Wayne Litherland recapped the meeting he attended for the upcoming Boy Scout Camporee this fall. We are invited to participate with static displays, Young Eagles program, and helping the Scouts with Aviation Merit Badge requirements. Should be a fun event!
Keep visiting the Chapter Web Site for changes; more ideas are in the works.
The meeting adjourned, and several members enjoyed a continued "hangar talk" session...
