EAA Chap 1479 (Provisional)
September 2008 Meeting Notes
Well,
folks, looks like it is a "Green Light" for an EAA Chapter in St
Joseph, Missouri. Last Thursday evening over 30 people attended our initial
meeting to determine interest in starting a local chapter. Thirty of those
attending indeed signed the membership roster, There were an additional 5 who
were unable to attend, but definitely want to join. I will forward the
paperwork this month and hopefully by the next meeting we will have a chapter
number, basic bylaws, and insurance.
We discussed the process for chapter initiation, startup fees, and we agreed
upon an annual chapter fee of $15 per member.
We decided to meet on the last Thursday of each month at the Express Flight
FBO Hangar. Only five folks expressed interest in a Chapter Officer position.
We will present the proposed chapter officers to the group at the next
meeting for approval.
All present introduced themselves and shared their
interest in aviation. We have people with fixed wing, ultralight,
powered parachute experience. Several are currently working on aircraft
projects or have kits for construction. Several folks are between aircraft
and just want to stay involved in EAA and general aviation.
Homework. Please brainstorm for chapter meeting topics, sponsored
events, ie flyins and
dates, and other activities.
Thanks to all of you for coming out and/or phoning me to show your interest
in EAA and our own local chapter. If we all keep contributing ideas for
meeting topics and work towards organizing some fly-ins/outs or other
aviation related topics, our time at each meeting will be time well spent. It
offers a fantastic opportunity for us to share our varied experiences in
aviation. I look forward to learning as much as I can from each of you.
Hats off to Georgie and Bob Allen, as well, for
coming all the way from Albany to meet with us!
Finally, a huge debt of gratitude goes out to Gary Patterson of Express
Flight, who not only donated the hangar space and tables, but he had pizzas
on hand for us to nosh upon.
Feel free to contact me with ideas, questions, or comments.
Until next time,
Keep the Blue Side UP!
